Obituary for Maria Szczebonski

Maria Szczebonski
SZCZEBONSKI, Maria (nee Smerek) Born April 20, 1923 in Krynica Poland, Marie passed away peacefully at Extendicare Timmins on Thursday, January 18th, 2018. Maria is survived by her three sons, Alex (Louise), Ted (Jozefa) and Richard. Predeceased by her parents, three sisters, and her beloved son Henry (2004). Maria was most loved by her grandchildren, Kylie (Craig), Deborah Chenier (Dan), Stephanie Bertrand (Paul), Natalia, Zackary (Tammy), Angie Glencross (Matthew) and Karrie, Krystal and Hendrick. Maria also had many great-grandchildren whom she loved very much. Maria came to Timmins on November 4, 1951 after years of hardship due to the war. Maria immigrated to Canada with her two small children and became a proud Canadian. Maria worked hard for many years providing the best life she could for her family and was blessed to work and care for the Dr. John Sullivan family. Later in life, Maria was able to enjoy the fruits of her labour and discovered a passion for travelling, including returning to Poland to visit beloved family members she had not seen for decades. Maria was a remarkable grandmother who helped mold, guide and inspire her grandchildren. She also made a point of passing on many Polish traditions and recipes to them. Maria wasn’t only a mother and grandmother for some of us but also a friend, cheerleader and supporter. She was inspirational, kind and loved so very much. Maria was very active in the Timmins Polish Community and you could always find her at the Polish hall kitchen cooking with all her lady friends and enjoying parties, music and many great friendships. Maria was also a devoted Catholic and her faith provided her with much comfort. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her. A celebration of her remarkable life will be held Saturday January 20th at 12 noon in the Miron-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel (Fr. John Lemire officiating) followed by a reception in the funeral home lounge. Interment Timmins Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrance donations to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. The family will receive friends on Saturday morning from 10 a.m.-11:45 a.m. at the
MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME,
